WHO IS CLARA? focuses on the living, on the quest for identity. It is essentially the unveiling of an individual who relies on the only thing that belongs to her and will ever belong to her: her body.

Obsessed over questions of identity I have been interested in epigenealogy – theory stating that a new-born comes to the world with historical experiences given by his ancestors deep down his own genes. What belongs to me? What doesn’t belong to me?

 

My grandma from Guatemala is named Clara. She never knew her own parents or their origins. My second name is Clara.

 

With this personal anecdote I have created a solo to investigate my own work instrument, my body, as well as my artistic practice. Go back to the roots. Exploring tradition, the mix of cultures and generations, I make a call for freedom and for the “goce” (pleasure of life) by taking position on the stage and honoring the line of women, from which I come.
